Academics
Duke is currently in the process of renumbering courses. The new course numbers listed will be effective in fall 2012. Course numbers in parentheses represent the old Duke course numbers.
Students on the program take one core course (PUBPOL 450AS (290S)) and three additional electives:
PUBPOL 450AS (290S), Glasgow Seminar in Public Policy (CCI, R, SS): Analysis of the British political system and important public policy problems in Britain including privitization, Britain and the European Community, and economic and social policy. One Duke Credit.
The PUBPOL 450AS (290S) course can be used to meet the PPS 200-level requirement. Please note that this course begins in mid-September, approximately three weeks before the normal semester in Glasgow begins.
THREE ELECTIVES: Students choose three additional courses from the University of Glasgow's regular offerings. These courses do not need to be public-policy related; students have the option of taking any courses that are open to them in the university.
In order to earn transfer credit for the elective courses, students must earn the equivalent grade of a C- or above. For a list of approved courses taken by students at Glasgow in the past, see the GEO-U course approval database. In addition to these courses, students may seek approval for other courses at Glasgow. More information about transfer credit can be found on the Approval of Transfer Credit page.
For additional assistance in selecting courses, students should contact Ms. Anita Lyon in PPS.
More details about how study abroad relates to the Public Policy major and minor can be found within the Academics section of this website, as well as within the Duke University undergraduate bulletin.
