Duke/OTS Semester Programs in Costa Rica

Tropical Biology

This is an integrated, rigorous program of tropical biology studies located at OTS's three biological field stations in Costa Rica. Students learn about science by doing science. Students are introduced to the key questions in modern tropical biology and are provided with language skills and cultural orientation, as well as knowledge of the Costa Rican and Central American environmental dilemma. Students live dormitory-style.

Duke/OTS Tropical Biology Semester Program

Global Health

The Duke/OTS Global Health Semester in Costa Rica provides students considering careers in public health, medicine, and other health-related areas an outstanding opportunity to gain knowledge and direct experience. The 15-week program emphasizes both the scientific and social issues of tropical medicine, public health, ethnobiology, and research topics in these subjects. Students will reside at two of the biological field stations owned by OTS, Las Cruces and La Selva, located in diverse parts of the country. In both urban and rural settings, students will also be exposed to clinical settings and primary care facilities within Costa Rica's social security system,
including indigenous reservations.
