Postcard from Abroad

Dear Office of Study Abroad:

The Duke in Berlin program this Summer exceeded my expectations. Not only did I get to spend time with my aunt, uncle and cousins that live in Germany, but I also got to develop my comprehension of German. One of my greatest triumphs was watching the movie “Sex and City” in German with my sister and understanding most of it.

I want to return to Germany as soon as possible by means of a fellowship through the German Department at Duke. The fellowship comprises of teaching English at a private high school for a year in a small town close to Munich. I love the German language and culture as well as the European way of life. I am forever grateful to Duke for the opportunity to study and live in Berlin for those six glorious weeks this summer. The unending resources and support that Duke offers me continue to surprise me.

-Jennifer Burk
