Dear Global Education Office:
Here we are traveling again, this time on a weekend trip to a little pueblo in the countryside outside of Madrid. It's breathtakingly beautiful here, from the palace whose courtyard we're standing in, to the mountain vista behind us. This is one of the things I loved about studying abroad in Madrid -- I was able to see the world. Through class trips we visited everywhere, from Barcelona to Sevilla and Santiago de Compostela. On our own, we saw such exotic places as Rome, London, Istanbul, and Cairo. Along the way, we met people whose experiences surpassed our own and discovered as much about ourselves as the countries we visited.
As for Madrid itself, it's a city of a million hidden treasures, from Sunday evening “rueda” lessons at Cats (you have to say it “Kahts”), to late night poetry and African drums in Parque Retiro. You never run out of things to do and people to meet. With a culture conducive to enjoying and learning about life and a people vibrant and full of life and spirit, Spain gave us much. The semester I spent in Spain was the best of my life.
